For the Love of His Daughter

*Editor’s Note: Stories like this always tug at my heart strings. May he rest in peace!
A man was killed and his 4-year-old daughter critically injured Monday night when he shielded her from a car that had jumped a curb and pinned both of them against a wrought iron fence on the South Side.
A Chicago man, 32-year-old Angelo Thomas, was charged with drunken driving Tuesday night in the crash.
The man, identified as Joseph Richardson, 39, by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, was walking with his daughter, Kaniyah to a McDonald’s for burgers, in the 9500 block of South LaSalle Street when they were struck, according to a police Major Accident Investigation Unit officer. The accident was not a hit-and-run, the officer said.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said the two were struck, then pinned against a wrought iron fence by the car.
Richardson grabbed his daughter just before the car slammed the two into a fence, police and family say.
“He held the baby up to keep the car from destroying the baby, but it totally destroyed him,” his father, the Rev. L.V. Richardson, said this afternoon. “It’s hurt me pretty bad, but the Lord’s going to keep me moving on.”
The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to police News Affairs Officer John Henry.
According to witnesses, “the car was spotted driving erratically,” police News Affairs Officer Marcel Bright said. “When the car hit the curb and ended up on the sidewalk, the man shielded the child from the impact of the car and that probably saved the child’s life.”
Richardson was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 7:13 p.m. Monday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The girl was initially taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in “very critical condition,” Roccasalva said.
Richardson was the father of three, two girls and a boy, all under the age of 10. He was an accomplished musician, playing the piano and organ in choirs at Cottage Grove Baptist Church and Greater Revelation MB Church where his father ministers.

Double Homicide

Murderers, Dominique Smith (pictured left) & Trendall Matthews
PhotobucketThe details of the double murder at the BREC park were made public Tuesday. They describe Monday’s double murder as a “love triangle gone very wrong.”
Investigators say a complicated love triangle led to the killings of a Baker woman and her three-year-old son at a BREC park in Zachary. The victims have been identified as 23-year-old Jessica Johnson Palmer and her son, Juan Palmer, Jr. Her two daughters were also injured, but survived.
Johnson’s former boyfriend, Dominique Dantoni Smith of Zachary, and his current girlfriend, Trendall Lashel Matthews of Jackson, Louisiana were arrested overnight. Matthews is a second-cousin of the victim, according to relatives.
PhotobucketBoth are charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of attempted first degree murder. “They actually lured Jessica to the park along with her children, where the killings took place,” said sheriff’s department spokeswoman Casey Hicks.
Detectives believe the killings took place sometime Sunday evening at Doyle’s Bayou Park on Pride-Port Hudson Road.
After the killings took place, the two young girls spent the evening in the park. They were discovered Monday afternoon by a BREC working cutting grass in. Johnson and her son were found in wooded area of the park.
PhotobucketPhotobucketDeputies are praising a four-year-old with saving another life. Four-year-old Lindsay Paige Johnson is being considered a hero. According to investigators, after the murders, the four-year-old, whose own throat had been cut, saved her baby sister.
“If you can imagine a little 4-year-old, who had been cut, pick up her 6-month-old infant sister and carrying her out of those woods and get as far as she did to the front of the park. That’s just a miracle,” Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says.

Kevin Cartwright….MURDERER
PhotobucketA man suspected of shooting two women, killing one and wounding the other in Fort Lauderdale earlier this week, is under arrest after an anonymous tip led police to his Central Florida hideout.
Kevin Cartwright, 39, was arrested in Gainesville on Friday afternoon and is being held in an Alachua County jail without bail, authorities said. He could be charged with murder and aggravated battery, said Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Det. Kathy Collins
Cartwright is accused of shooting Shameca Davis, 22, the mother of his two children, and Davis’ partner, Shanesa Conway, 22, on April 27. The women were sitting in a car on the 700 block of Northwest 14th Terrace in Fort Lauderdale when police say Cartwright approached them, reached into the driver’s side window and fired several shots.
Conway suffered a gunshot to the head and died at Broward General Medical Center, authorities said.

Murdered: Doris Murray

A woman who won $5 million in the Georgia lottery a year ago has been found stabbed to death in her middle Georgia home, and her former boyfriend is charged with killing her.
Doris Murray, 42, was killed about 1:30 p.m. Monday in eastern Laurens County, Sheriff Bill Harrell said.
Derrick Lorenzo Stanley, 51, of East Dublin was being held without bond Wednesday in the county jail, charged with murder, Harrell said.
Stanley led police on a car chase through the cities of East Dublin and Dublin following a 911 call to Murray’s residence Monday. Harrell said members of Murray’s family called 911 saying they had seen Stanley leaving her modest block home with blood on his face. Much of the inside of the house was destroyed in a weekend fire.
Stanley wrecked his car and was carried to Fairview Park Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Despite her lottery winnings in April 2007, Murray “lived by meager standards,” the sheriff said. He said he believes the fire in her home was accidental. She indicated that she planned to raze the house and build again.
Murray, a mother of four, posed for pictures holding a giant check for $5 million after winning the prize on her 41st birthday. She chose to take it in $172,000 payments, after taxes, every year for 20 years. Murray told lottery officials she planned to use the money to start a trust fund for her grandchildren, according to a Lottery news release issued at the time of her winning.
Lottery spokeswoman Tandi Reddick said Wednesday that the money will continued to be paid to whomever is in Murray’s will.
Sheriff’s investigator Sgt. Stan Wright said he believed Murray and Stanley may have argued over a break-up.
“Her family said they had been boyfriend and girlfriend for some time,” Wright said. “Then she told him she wanted to break it off and she wanted to be friends and that was it. From what they told me, he didn’t want to accept that.”

Be Careful

*Editor’s Note: Many people have resorted to other means for meeting a mate, including the internet. I am not saying that it’s any better or worse than meeting someone at the mall, the club, or even in the church…but I am saying that you should approach all internet situations with caution.
DECATUR, Ga. — DeKalb County police have charged an 18-year-old man with raping two women they say he lured off the popular website Craigslist.
Detectives say Allen Jamar McDowell of Decatur convinced two women on separate occasions to meet him at an apartment off Kensington Road. The apartment was vacant, but McDowell allegedly gained access and held the women captive while he sexually assaulted them.
Both cases weren’t initially linked together and, in fact, police didn’t name McDowell as the suspect until recently.
“Our officers have been able to determine there was an incident in March and a second one in April. In both cases those victims did come forward to detectives and notify them of the sexual assaults, but it wasn’t until an anonymous tip came in to Crimestoppers that our detectives were able to link this particular suspect with these two sexual assaults,” said Mekka Parish, Public Information Officer for the Dekalb County Police Department.
McDowell faces a laundry list of charges including kidnapping, rape and reckless conduct for knowingly exposing someone to HIV. What police say they don’t know is how long McDowell may have been soliciting women on the internet and if there are other victims out there who have not yet come forward.
“You never know how many women he may have actually reached out to,” said Parish.

RIP: Nyia Page

It should be noted that prior to his conviction for the MURDER of Nyia,William Page was arrested (and in jail) for connection with the sexual assault of a 6 year old boy.
PhotobucketAccording to a police affidavit, Page confessed to murdering his daughter during the early morning hours of February 3, 2007. Page allegedly told detectives that he woke up sometime after midnight and found Nyia playing in front of a mirror in the upstairs hallway of their home. Page said he became angry when she refused to return to bed and he struck her with the back of his fist. The blow was administered with such force that Nyia was thrown backwards, at which time she struck her head on a nearby wall, knocking her unconscious, police said.
Page then wiped blood from Nyia’s head with a towel, wrapped her in a blanket, and carried her outside. Page told police he took Nyia to an isolated spot near some railroad tracks, a few blocks from his house. He said she was unconscious but breathing. He then laid her down in the snow, walked back home, and went to sleep.
Investigators surmise that at some point during the night, Nyia regained consciousness and wandered around, looking for her house. She was barefoot and wearing only a sweater. Searchers found her diaper on the tracks where her father said he had left her, and they later found tiny footprints in the snow. Somehow, the brave little girl managed to climb up 17 snow-covered steps to a wooded knoll, where she collapsed, curled up into the fetal position, and went to sleep. Sadly, she never woke up again.

We’ve GOT To Do Better

*Editor’s Note: Hope you guys are staying afloat of all the news that surrounds you. Here’s a story that does not necessarily seek to promote but instead, it serves as a lesson on how NOT to conduct yourself. In addition to making my community aware of some of the things that go on within our circle, I feel that its also PNE’s responsibility to show the world how we can indeed do better. And before anyone says “Well, this isn’t an injustice,” let me remind you that we all have some level of social responsibility to our youth, whether we wish to acknowledge it or not. Failing to do so could prove detrimental to the children of today who will become future leaders of tomorrow. Presidential Pro Tempore, Monica Conyers, REALLY needs to learn how to act accordingly…as the professional that she SHOULD be. Otherwise, you stand the possibility of being ‘called out’ by an elementary aged child. I’m all about “keeping it real,” but when you fail to realize WHEN it’s necessary to trade in the gang signs and doo-rags for your business attire, I can’t support your efforts in any way. This is the same woman that made verbal and physical threats of assault with a gun. Can anybody out there tell me WHY she’s serving on ANY board at all?
Watch both videos in their entirety. The first video shows footage of a city counsel meeting in which Conyers goes off and the one just below it shows a child reminding Conyers of her responsibilities as an adult:

Tionda Bradley Found?

*Editor’s Note: In 2001, Tionda and Diamond Bradley were reported missing. After years of prayer vigils, creation of websites, and t-shirts to simply ‘spread the word,’ NEW HOPE has arisen in the case.
Apparently, a teenager had the above picture on her Myspace page and listed the name as “Angelique.”
However, famed forensic artist/photo expert, Lois Gibson, says that…without a DOUBT…the girl pictured above is actually Tionda Bradley.
As it stands today, police have actually tracked down the teenager who posted the picture on Myspace but have yet to find “Angelique.” If this is indeed her, a lot of questions remain…WHO took Tionda and her baby sister, Diamond (pictured below) and WHY? Where IS Diamond? And most importantly, are they REALLY okay?
For the sake of the family, I am hoping that this is indeed Tionda and that once she’s safe and sound at her home where she should be, she can offer some insight on what happened to them back in 2001 and maybe help to bring little Diamond home as well.

*Editor’s Note: Reason #9299284 why I’m a huge advocate for having children when you’re ready, not due to circumstance. This is NOT to say that I am promoting abortion..what I AM saying is that it’s important to be careful so that you won’t have to worry about such things if you’re not prepared. Newsflash people…having a baby is a FULL TIME job. Unfortunately, Rozlynn didn’t realize this. Now, she won’t be doing any partying anytime soon.

A South Side teenage mother who authorities said no longer wanted a baby because she couldn’t go to parties was held on $600,000 bond Wednesday on charges that she drowned her 5-month-old daughter in a bathtub earlier this month.
Rozlynn Rodgers, 19, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the April 4 death of her daughter, Makalah, at their home in the 7800 block of South Ingleside Avenue. She later told authorities that she drowned the child because she no longer wanted to be a mother, officials said.
Rodgers told police “she didn’t want to be a mom anymore because she couldn’t go to parties if she had to take care of the baby,” Assistant State’s Atty. Mary Anna Planey said Wednesday during a bond hearing before Judge Laura Sullivan.
Planey said that Rodgers placed the baby in a full bathtub on the afternoon of April 4. When the child slid under the water, Rodgers sat and watched for several minutes, Planey said. Another person in the house called 911 after Rodgers removed Makalah from the bathtub.
The baby later was pronounced dead of cardiac arrest, and the medical examiner reported that her lungs were saturated with water, Planey said. Though the original autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner’s office was inconclusive, the manner of death was later changed to homicide, police spokeswoman Laura Kubiak said Wednesday.

*Editor’s Note: I’ve always wondered what goes through a social workers’ mind when they fail to act on tips they receive regarding children who are being mistreated? This is my NO means pointing a dirty finger at all social workers. It is, however, saying that cases regarding the abuse/mistreatment of children should not go on without investigation. Sure, some people tell tall tales out of spite or due to misunderstanding…but when it comes to children, all cases are worth investigating. May Jewell, Michael and Innocent rest in peace.

A deranged Long Island mom killed her three young children – apparently by drowning them – and laid their wet corpses side by side on her bed, police sources said yesterday.
Leatrice Brewer, 27, then called 911, but may have tried to kill herself first, the sources said.
A homicide detective said today one child’s throat was cut and all three showed signs of possible poisoning.
The shocking crime evoked memories of murderous mom Andrea Yates, who drowned all five of her kids in her Texas home in 2001.
Yesterday, when officers arrived at the home on Prospect Avenue in New Cassel at about 9 a.m., Brewer was standing at the top of a staircase and summoned them inside.
Police found 6-year-old Jewell Ward and her brothers, Michael Demesyeux, 4, and Innocent Demesyeux, 1, dead on their mom’s bed.
The father of Michael and Innocent, Innocent Demesyeux Sr., briefly stopped by the home and was clearly distraught.
“I think she planned it. She should get what she deserves,” the grieving dad said.

Murdered: Raven Buckley

*Editor’s Note: This story happened in Atlanta. This young lady seemed to have an extremely bright future and sadly, that opportunity was dismissed by a coward. May Ms. Buckley rest in peace.
Original Article Found at Top Lawyer News
A woman killed in Midtown Atlanta Friday in what police say is an apparent murder-suicide was a Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker secretary, the firm’s Atlanta managing partner, Philip J. Marzetti, confirmed Friday evening. Police said a man shot and killed the woman and then turned the gun on himself outside the Bank of America Plaza, Atlanta’s tallest building.
Marzetti said that the secretary, Raven Buckley, had been with the firm for about a year. The shooter was not a firm employee, he said, but the employee of a local temporary agency who had been working for the last three months in the firm’s records center.
The incident happened at a picnic table in the courtyard outside the skyscraper around 3:30 p.m. Paul Hastings’ Atlanta offices are in that building.
The man and woman got into a verbal argument that soon turned physical, said Atlanta Police Officer Ron Campbell. The man then held the woman down and shot her before shooting himself, Campbell said.
Police arrived at the scene to find two bodies. Campbell didn’t know if the two had a personal relationship.
The west entrance to the 1,023-foot-tall building was draped in yellow tape Friday afternoon. Campbell said witnesses described a “pretty panicked scene” in the shooting’s aftermath, as workers alarmed by the gunfire scrambled to call authorities.
“We’re shocked and deeply saddened by this tragedy,” Marzetti said in a phone message, “And it’s got everyone here quite upset, as you might imagine. In any event, our principal concerns right now are with our employee’s family, friends and her co-workers, make sure that they’re doing OK.
“The last three hours have been some of the worst of my life,” he added later.

Murdered: Kimberly Jacobs

1. Obsessive fascination with death and corpses.
2. Erotic attraction to or sexual contact with corpses.
*Editor’s Note: It is HIGHLY recommended (as usual) that EVERYONE…especially the ladies…check out WHO it is that they’re dating. Do not wait for someone to go to the extreme before letting them go for being crazy and deranged. Even though this case does not involve a man and his deadly rage against his girlfriend, the story still reads the same. It’s disturbing that the killer’s attorney is trying to enter a plea of ‘mental illness’ for his client. Some people just know what it is that they’re doing…they’re not stupid. But what’s even MORE disturbing is the fact that this happened back in 2006, yet in 2008 its receiving publication…a “first time” for PNE.
PhotobucketIt is a scene Linda Jacobs can’t shake.
Police found her daughter’s College Park apartment door standing open and tracked her by following a trail of torn cloths and pulled hair. They found Kimberly Jacobs, 26 — once a petite bundle of smiles — face down in her filled bathtub. Partially nude.
Beaten, raped and strangled.
“When I read the report, all I could do was imagine what happened to her,” Jacobs said. “When I opened the casket to see her body, she had purple bruises and scratches on her forehead. Her eye was so swollen I almost didn’t recognize her profile. That is a vision I will never forget.”
Kimberly Jacobs was supposed to pick up her younger sister at the airport on Sept. 30, 2006.
Instead, she was buried.
It has been 19 months since Linda Jacobs’ world caved in. The time seems longer when she considers that the man police say killed her daughter, Leroy Mitchell Knox, now 23, has yet to stand trial for murder, rape, kidnapping and necrophilia.
from the date of a killing until sentencing. Since 2000, the statewide median time for that was slightly more than 14 months. And the Knox case isn’t going to trial anytime soon.
Such facts and figures may mean something to researchers and legal analysts, but they’re of little concern to Jacobs, who has seen the case languish for a variety of reasons.
The overriding delay has been completing a mental evaluation of the suspect, a process that generally takes three to six months. However, this one has been complicated by the suicide of the original psychiatrist, said John Turner, Clayton County’s executive assistant district attorney.

Planned Parenthood Targets Blacks

Posted in Hate CrimeProject New EraRacism on April 27, 2008 by projectnewera
*Editor’s Note: No matter what your stance on abortion, you have to admit that this is wrong. Although the end results can be somewhat biased b/c they are only calling a ‘few’ Planned Parenthood locations, it’s still rather frightening that they’d be more willing to take the money under the guise of eliminating the black population thereby supporting foolishness that targets specific ethnic groups than to say “NO” we won’t accept your funds because we will not act as the ‘go-between’ to your obviously racist master plan. I’ve supported Planned Parenthood and its efforts in the past, as it offers free or discounted services to those who may not have regular family practitioners but unless they release some statement where they terminate employment and denounce the behaviors of the few representatives (be it administrative or otherwise) who basically presented themselves as a spokesperson to this non-sense, I can’t say that they’ll hear my praises in the future. Please watch both videos and PAY ATTENTION! In the first video posted below, the “caller” spoke with the director of development at Planned Parenthood. I wonder what she was thinking. *Editor’s Note: I am an advocate for treating mental illness and after reading a few articles regarding Jeanette Hawes, I am convinced that she may have one. I am not trying to make an excuse for her because she is Black…I’m simply saying that while prayer and good vibes towards the spirit may HELP, a lot of people who have mental issues need to seek therapy and possible medication. A lot of these murders that are committed against children could be prevented if we as a people would put more time and effort into solutions, rather than overlooking everything or simply “wondering” if everything is okay. May these children rest in peace.
PhotobucketFriends and family members worried about Jeannette Michelle Hawes in the days leading up to the stabbing deaths of her two children.
But Ms. Hawes, 22, insisted she was fine.
On Thursday afternoon, Ms. Hawes took her 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son into the bathroom of a convenience store and locked the door.
When sheriff’s deputies — called by a store clerk who heard screams inside — finally forced it open, they found Ms. Hawes covered in blood, her son, Jordon Hawes, dead, and her daughter, Shakayla Hawes, dying.

Her son, Fred Dumas Jr. (pictured above), was found tied up near a church with bug and possible snake bites.
Fred Leonard Dumas, the father of of Fred Jr., has been charged with child abuse.
Unfortunately, Katrina’s body was found with a gunshot wound to the head and police are now questioning Dumas Sr., with regards to this matter.
Unfortunately, the young boy is the one that will suffer most in this case…as he now has to grow up without his mother, while his father will be locked away for abuse and (possible) murder.
