Mission

Project New Era is a site started as a movement towards helping to inform those that will listen about the wrong doings against the black community all over the world, thus filling an obvious ‘gap’ left by mainstream media. The primary focus of this site is to find, report and follow-up with stories related to the black community that includes (but is not limited to) topics such as missing and/or murdered (black) women and children, social injustices related to our community, as well as issues related to the plight of black men.
This site will be one that seeks not to separate but rather serve as an informative, positive ‘pick up’ when the more popular media outlets seek to leave us out. If you would like to contribute to the site by providing links, emails, photos etc., to stories that are relevant to the purpose of this site, please feel free to email me at

Project New Era: Update

Posted in Project New Era on December 30, 2008 by projectnewera
I would just like to point out the following link.
You can get to the post regarding forum rules by clicking HERE.
Again, please note that ANY posts containing curse words, racial slurs, or those that provide personal/hurtful information regarding a victim, their family members, etc., will NOT be approved. Initially, the comments were set to ‘approve only’ because of the insane amount of spam that gets posted on random blogs. After running this site for a few months, I find it necessary to leave the settings as they are because some people have a tendency to say some God-awful things about the deceased.
While I do understand that no one is perfect and that even victims are not without flaw, the bottom line is that we NEED a site like this to cover stories that the media refuses to detail. Although I do encourage open dialogue here and even friendly debates, I will not allow this site to become one in which Blacks are bashed. If this is the fill that you’re seeking, I advise you to do a Google search for the numerous Black celebrity (gossip) sites and can guarantee that you’ll find what you’re looking for there.
Project New Era seeks to inform because we deserve it. Let’s keep it peaceful, please.
Thank you!

12 Year Old Suspected of Being a Prostitute, Beaten

*Editor’s Note: Now if this doesn’t beat all. To add insult to injury, they had to nerve to charge the young girl’s father with obstruction of justice! Just read it. No words.
Original Article Found at Galveston Daily News
GALVESTON — A Houston attorney representing three Galveston policemen accused of assaulting a 12-year-old girl mistaken for a prostitute said Monday he’s working to have a lawsuit filed in federal court dismissed before it reaches trial late next year.
Bill Helfand declined to discuss specifics of the lawsuit filed Aug. 22, in which a Galveston woman alleges plain-clothed policemen targeted her daughter exactly two years earlier.
The lawsuit, filed by Galveston attorney Anthony Griffin, accuses the officers of failing to identify themselves when they approached Dymond Larae Milburn at 7:45 p.m. outside her house in the 2000 block of 24th Street.
Emily Milburn was preparing her children for school the next day when the electricity failed, and Milburn dispatched her daughter outside to flip the breaker back on, the lawsuit says.
Police were sent to the area to look for three white prostitutes soliciting a white man and a black man selling drugs, when Sgt. Gilbert Gomez saw a black female and ordered her detained, the lawsuit says.
Four officers got out of a blue van and ran toward Dymond, who is black.
The officers suspected she was a prostitute, because she wore tight shorts, the lawsuit says, arguing her detention was unfounded, unreasonable and violated her constitutional rights. It also says she wasn’t wearing tight shorts.
Crying For ‘Daddy’
“Dymond grabbed a tree and started yelling, ‘Daddy, Daddy, Daddy,’” Griffin wrote in the lawsuit, which accuses officer David Roark of covering Dymond’s mouth.
Officer Sean Stewart held one of Dymond’s arms, Roark handcuffed the other, while Gomez also grabbed her, the lawsuit claims.
Wilfred Louis Milburn, 47, heard his daughter’s cries for help, the lawsuit says. When Milburn and his wife went outside, “Dymond was hysterical and holding onto the tree with one arm (and) two officers were striking Dymond in the head, face and throat,” the lawsuit says.
The parents tried unsuccessfully to have police release Dymond to them, so they might comfort her, the lawsuit claims.
It is unclear how much time elapsed that night before Dymond’s parents took her to the University of Texas Medical Branch for treatment of injuries, which the lawsuit says included head injuries, multiple contusions, loss of vision and hearing and a bloody nose.
The head injury resulted from a blow from an officer’s flashlight, the lawsuit claims.

*Editor’s Note: Another case of a woman being senselessly murdered by a jealous/angry boyfriend. May Ms. Green rest in peace! Tracey Green’s mother speaks out about the tragedy HERE!
Original Article Found at WHTM
Police in York County arrested the boyfriend of a woman found shot to death in her York Township home early Tuesday morning.
The victim was 38-year-old Tracey Green. Police said she was shot to death in the garage of her home on Highlands Path.
Tracey Green’s boyfriend, Brian Green, is charged with her murder. The two were not married but shared the same last name. Brian Green was arraigned Tuesday.
“Why? Why did he do it?” said Tracey Green’s mother, Margaret Justice. “I just don’t understand.” Justice said the two had no history of fighting.
According to court documents, Tracey’s 16-year-old daughter heard the couple fighting early Tuesday morning. She then heard three or four loud bangs. When she went downstairs to see what happened, she said Brian Green shut the door on her and told her to get back inside.
Police said Brian Green fled the scene in his car. The daughter called 911 and her grandmother. Police said Tracey’s 9-year-old son was also home at the time.
“The real hard part of it is seeing two young children having to suffer through this type of event,” said York Area Regional Police Chief Tom Gross.

Murdered: Averill LeMon

Original Article Found at LSJ.com
Eric W. Jackson and some of Averill LeMon’s friends are looking for any recordings on which the local rapper, who was found dead Thursday, may have appeared.
Jackson estimated that LeMon, who performed as “AveReal,” has enough unreleased songs to fill five or six albums. The songs, which include recordings on which he appeared, could exist on audiotape or videotape, he said.
“We’re looking for all the miscellaneous songs that are out in the streets,” the 30-year-old Lansing man said. “We’re in collection mode.”
LeMon, 29, of Lansing, was found dead Thursday inside a townhouse at 3610 W. Miller Road.
The death was ruled a homicide. Police said Monday they have not made any arrests, and they still are trying to determine why Le-Mon was killed.
He did not live at the home, but police said it was not unusual for him to be there.
“He was a stand-up individual,” said Jackson, who performed with LeMon in the local hip-hop and R&B group, 51/7.
The group appears in Lansing regularly, but they also have played shows in Benton Harbor, Detroit, and South Bend, Ind., Jackson said.
“He was the best one out of all of us,” said Jackson who performs as “Detail.” “He was probably one of the top two or three rappers in the city.”
LeMon was planning to release his first solo CD, “Always Kept It Real,” friends said. They expect it still could be released in the summer.
LeMon, a Sexton High School graduate, attended Northwood University on scholarship for two years, where he played fullback on the football team, said friend Deocco Long.
Long said LeMon is survived by three children – his 9-year-old daughter, 5-year-old son and 5-month-old daughter.
LeMon was dating the mother of the youngest two children, Long said.
“He was a good father. He always talked about his kids,” Long said, adding: “He was focusing on (music) promotion and production.”
Jackson said people identified with LeMon’s rapping style.
“He would integrate normal, everyday things, talk about things around the neighborhood, things in his life,” Jackson said. “Everybody liked Averill.”

Epic Fail: Roschelle Woyee

*Editor’s Note: Now this most definitely hits close to home. My parents made sure to save this article for me b/c they are aware of my efforts here at Project New Era and wanted to make sure that I had the story. What bothers me about the legal system as it pertains to domestic disputes is that they are generally not taken seriously. A woman has to literally DIE before the cops will say “Oops, there seems to be a problem here,” and even then, if you’re a black woman, thorough investigations can (and do) become an epic fail. I know many girls who have had “situations” with their former boyfriends and felt forced to file a restraining order simply to put something on record and protect themselves. On the same token, I’ve known girls who have taken the attitude of “Why bother,” since the legal system seems to be extremely nonchalant about domestic disputes. It’s absolutely sad that this woman had to die and leave behind a child for her parents to take care of. It should also be noted that her killer is a white man.
Why is it that we’re seeing more instances of the police and social service groups failing our black women and children? Anybody have the answer? Rest in Peace, Roschelle!
Original Article Found at the Charlotte Observer
PhotobucketHours after Roschelle Woyee was shot to death, Mecklenburg probation officials were scrambling to piece together whether they’d done a decent job in supervising the man now charged with killing her.
Probation workers knew Daniel Jaworski, 20, because he’d admitted scratching and pushing Woyee on May 23, 2007. He was placed under probation’s watch in a program called deferred prosecution, which gives first-time offenders a chance to clear their record.
Jaworski, Woyee’s boyfriend and father of their child, didn’t embrace his second chance. He broke the rules and was again charged with assaulting her.
But the probation office didn’t report his violations in court to hold him accountable and better protect Woyee, 19, from what court records suggest was a pattern of violence.
An Observer review of the case found probation officials failed to act on red flags that experts and court officials say should have triggered a crackdown.
“He could do anything he wanted to do,” said Roschelle’s father, Robert Woyee. “This is somebody arrested by the police several times. I am so frustrated.”
The case was troubled from the start: It took the probation office 10 months to get Jaworski signed up for his supervision-and-treatment program – a step court officials say should take no more than 60 days.
Once he finally got into the program this past May, probation officers didn’t react despite repeated violations and troubling signs, including another charge of assaulting Woyee, and his expulsion from a domestic violence treatment program.
In each case, probation officials’ failure to report Jaworski allowed him to stay on the lowest-level supervision program as if nothing had happened.
“If somebody is out on deferred prosecution and he is charged again with assault, somebody has to do something. And quickly,” said Mecklenburg Chief District Judge Fritz Mercer, who has spent nearly 18 years on the bench.
Had violations been filed in court, Mercer said, a judge might have revoked Jaworski’s deferred prosecution – making him answer for his charges in court.
Mercer called the 10-month delay “unacceptable” and said Jaworski’s violations should have prompted action from probation officials.
Jaworski is now charged with murder, accused of shooting Woyee in the head at about 10 p.m. on Dec. 4 as she returned from driving a girlfriend home.

Injustice: Mickey Wright

*Editor’s Myspace: I was sent information on this case by a relative of Mickey Wright. This is one of the MANY reasons Project New Era was started! Although this happened years ago, I still find it relevant to the cause that Project New Era stands for. How is it that someone can kill a man, burn and dismember his body but only receive 15 years because he copped a plea? Seriously? So the black life is ONLY worth about 15 years? Black life is now negotiable? I have a feeling that if Mickey Wright had been white…especially a white female…this whole “only 15 years” deal would be nonexistent.
I am absolutely disgusted with the legal system and will continue expressing my disgust via this blog. It annoys me to no end that this was allowed to happen! To the Wright family…my heart goes out to you. I know that Mr. Mickey Wright has not been justified in ANY way and I truly hope that, as a family, you are able to find some level assuagement in this tragedy as you continue to FIGHT! This story truly burns my soul to the CORE! RIP, Mr. Mickey Wright!
The video posted below is the best in terms of giving the story as it happened. The few links found online regarding this case didn’t detail the murder. However, you can click HERE to read information regarding the family’s civil suit against murderer, Dale Mardis.

A Newnan man armed with two semiautomatic handguns killed a 14-year old and shot another man before taking his own life Sunday afternoon at an East Coweta subdivision, according to Major James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff’s office.
Deputies responding to the scene found 44 year-old Reginald Hines dead in the driveway of 97 Pilgrim Way in the Plymouth Plantation subdivision off Hwy. 154. Hines’ address was given as 70 Torrey Pines Court in Newnan.
Anthony Olbert, 14, was found fatally shot in the street in front of the residence. Olbert was identified as the son of Hines’ former wife, Michella Hines. A third gunshot victim, Raymond Eldridge, was also found alive in the yard beside the residence. Eldridge was taken from the scene by ambulance, Yarbrough said.
The details of the incident were still incomplete early Sunday afternoon, but Yarbrough said it appeared that Ms. Hines and her 14-year old son, Olbert, had gone to the subdivision to help move furniture or offer other assistance to Eldridge, believed to be Ms. Hines’ uncle.
At 1:28 p.m. Coweta 911 received a call about a problem at 97 Pilgrim Way and deputies and emergency units responded. By the time officers arrived, the incident was over and the shooter and one of his victims were dead.
Investigators received information that Ms. Hines was targeted but managed to flee the scene and run down the street. Hines was unable to catch her and returned to the home, where he shot the others and then killed himself.
“When he couldn’t catch her, he returned to the house and shot the two others then turned the gun on himself. At least that’s the way it appears at this time,” Yarbrough said Sunday afternoon.
The condition of the surviving gunshot victim was not available Sunday afternoon. The investigation is still in its early stages and will continue until all available information has been gathered, Yarbrough said.

Update: Laneeka Varnado

Authorities believe they have located the dead body of a Paulding County woman missing for 12 days.
Cobb County Police Department spokesman Dana Pierce said “we are all but certain” they’ve identified the body of Laneeka Varnado, who was last seen by her father the Monday before Thanksgiving. An Austell property owner discovered her silver Mercedes, with the 22-year-old inside, Saturday afternoon off the C.H. James Parkway on State Route 6.
Varnado’s father, Melvin Mackey, was at the scene and confirmed the car belonged to his missing daughter, Pierce said.
Although they’re awaiting an exact cause of death from the Cobb County Medical Examiner, investigators say foul play was not involved.
“At this point, there’s nothing of a vicious nature to be found in this death,” Pierce said, “except for the injuries sustained in the crash.”
It’s uncertain when the wreck occurred — “it could be anytime from November 24th to 3:30 this afternoon,” he said Saturday.
The car was found some 200 feet off the highway, easily hidden from passersby, Pierce said. Investigators say the car rammed a tree at the bottom of a ravine.
Interviewed nine days ago, Mackey said he was fearing the worst.
“In my head, I know she’s gone. My baby’s gone, ” he said, breaking down. “I don’t feel it in my soul, that she’s gone. But honestly, right now I don’t feel anything. I’m just a shell of a man without her.”

There are tons more stories to come!
I want to take the time to thank everyone who has offered input to the sites, be it via links to news stories or through commentary. It is very much appreciated and definitely needed to keep this blog relevant.
I am going to be posting quite a few more stories over the holidays, so I hope that you guys will continuing subscribing and telling your friends about the blog. This is definitely a blog worth sharing with your peers.
Here lately, I have been receiving an influx of emails that question why certain comments have not posted. I try to keep things positive over here, given the sometimes sullen nature of the blog. That being said, if your comment contains curse words, racial slurs, or anything derogatory towards the victims or families of the victims, the comment will not be approved and subsequently will be deleted. Any type of personal vendetta that one has against the victim or the family of the victim should be taken elsewhere. I refuse to allow Project New Era to become the spot that allows families to grieve more as they read hurtful comments than when they actually lost said family member. Please try to be respectful and keep hateful/spiteful comments to yourself. Again, if your comment is found to have several swear words, it’s automatically deleted.
Here’s wishing you and yours a happy holiday from PNE!

Melvin Mackey always taught his children to be prepared for the unexpected.
But there was nothing that could have prepared him for his youngest daughter’s disappearance.
Laneeka Varnado, who had been living with her father in Paulding County, left home Monday night for an evening of celebration and relaxation, Mackey said.
“She worked so hard and she had two jobs,” he said. “I encouraged her to relax a bit and take some time for herself. I’m sorry I did that now.”
The 22-year-old never returned home from her night out. Earlier this week her father filed a missing persons report with police.
The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office had no new information on the case Thursday, said department spokesman Cpl. Brandon Gurley.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Varnado left her father’s Paulding County house to attend a function at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta. She called her father throughout the night to let him know of her whereabouts, which was normal, Mackey said. The last time they spoke was about 11:13 p.m. During that call, Varnado told her father that she might stop at a club on her way home, but that she would call him to let him know if she did. Varnado, who is 5 feet 5 and about 105 pounds, did not call back and she hasn’t been heard from since.
Mackey, who has worked in law enforcement in Georgia and Louisiana, planned to spend Thanksgiving Day putting up homemade posters of his daughter, and her silver 1999 Mercedes SLK230, in some of her last known locations about Atlanta.
He had a hard time putting many of his feelings into words, often choking back tears.
“In my head, I know she’s gone. My baby’s gone,” he said, breaking down. “With my background in law enforcement, I know how this goes, but that doesn’t make it better.”
He said as a father he hopes for the best.
“I don’t feel it in my soul, that she’s gone,” he said. “But honestly, right now I don’t feel anything. I’m just a shell of a man without her.”
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Laneeka Varnado is asked to call the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office at 770-443-3010.

A Bronx man with a long rap sheet was arrested Monday for killing a promising prep school student who tried to break up a fight during a weekend party, cops said.
Brandin Santiago, 18, was charged with killing Validus Preparatory Academy senior Nadairee Walters, police said, for shooting the girl outside an early Sunday morning apartment party in Morris Heights.
He was also charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Santiago shot two teenage boys in the leg, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, said cops.
“I would love to sit down and speak with him,” said Wanda Grant, Walters’ aunt. “What was on his mind?”
During the past year, officers nabbed Santiago six times on a slew of charges, ranging from selling pot to attempted murder, said a police source. It was unclear last night why he was still out on the streets.
The hoodlum and the book-loving student crossed paths at around 2 a.m Sunday. She was hanging out inside the apartment bash and he was trying to get past a makeshift security checkpoint where teens were patting each other down for weapons, said cops.
Santiago and his crew were turned away but returned minutes later, armed. When Walters went outside to make peace, Santiago shot her in the chest, cops said.
“We are trying to comprehend what is going on,” said Walter’s mother, also named Nadairee.
The grieving mom said she was looking forward to seeing her daughter attend nursing school.
“They took my baby,” said the elder Walter. “She was a good girl.”

In her first public statement since the 15-year-old was killed in a lift near her flat Tsehainesh Medhani, an Eritrean refugee, claimed she had been let down by the officers she turned to for protection.
She stood weeping, just feet away from the spot where the body was found on Monday, as her solicitor read a statement in English paying tribute to her “precious, beautiful and much loved daughter” adding: “A light has gone out of my life.”
Arsema’s aunt Almaz Medhani collapsed on the ground wailing uncontrollably in front of a growing pile of floral tributes.
Mrs Medhani’s comments came as 21-year-old student Thomas Nugusse was remanded in custody charged with the schoolgirl’s murder at a brief appearance before magistrates.
Arsema, a member of the choir at her local Eritrean orthodox church, bled to death after being stabbed repeatedly in the neck in a lift at Matheson Lang House, the block of flats near Waterloo Station in London where she lived with her mother, 11-year-old sister Feruz and 13-year-old brother Robel.
She was found covered in blood, wearing her school uniform, by a neighbour who called the lift as she brought her own nine-year-old daughter home from school.
Arsema’s mother had contacted police a month beforehand to report that she had allegedly been attacked and threatened in a McDonalds restaurant.
It was to be another 12 days before the teenager was interviewed at her school and the matter was still under investigation when she was killed.
Scotland Yard is conducting two internal reviews into the handling of the case and the force has also voluntarily referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
“I am absolutely devastated and cannot believe what has happened to my daughter,” Mrs Medhani’s message said.
“I came to this country from Eritrea to live in safety.
“When my daughter was threatened I went to the police seeking protection. Sadly this did not happen.
“I have lost a precious, beautiful and much loved daughter who was kind, generous and loving.
“I hope no other family has to go through the anguish that we are going through.”
“I feel as though a light has gone out of my life.”

Hate Crime: Taneka Talley

The 11-year-old son of a Fairfield woman who was stabbed to death at her retail clerk’s job is being denied his mother’s workers’ compensation death benefits by the store’s insurance company.
The reason? The firm says the woman was killed because of her race, not her job.
Taneka Talley was stabbed while at work in a Dollar Tree Store in Fairfield on the morning of March 29, 2006. The suspect in the case, Tommy Joe Thompson, is due to stand trial next month on a charge of murder in the case. Police say Thompson entered the store shortly after 9 a.m. and stabbed the 26-year-old Talley once in the chest. She died a short time later.
Talley left behind a son, Larry, who was 8 years old at the time.
State workers’ compensation law entitles the son to death benefits, according to Moira Stagliano, an attorney with Boxer & Gerson, the Oakland law firm that is representing Carol Frazier, Larry Talley’s grandmother and legal guardian.
However, the Dollar Tree Stores’ insurance carrier, Specialty Risk Services, is denying the Talley family’s death benefit claim, said Stagliano.
In a press release issued Thursday about the dispute, Stagliano said the attorney representing the insurance company, Charles Kempton Letts, informed Stagliano that, “Mr. Thompson’s motivation in stabbing Taneka Talley was purely race motivated. As such, it is our belief that our denial in this matter is proper.”
Stagliano is outraged.
Calling the insurance company’s decision “really reprehensible,” she accused the firm of attempting to profit from a hate crime.
“It’s shocking that Dollar Tree and its insurance carrier are using the alleged racist motivation of a killer as an excuse to get out of paying benefits to the orphaned son of an employee who was murdered at work,” she said. “They would pay the benefits if she was killed for a non-racist reason. They’re basically trying to benefit from a hate crime.”
Letts refused to comment on the matter saying it is “still pending.”
According to Stagliano, during a hearing last March to determine Thompson’s mental competency to stand trial, a psychiatrist stated his opinion that Thompson said “he went into a store and he stabbed a lady for no other reason than she was black.”
The psychiatrist, Dr. Herb McGrew, was asked by Deputy District Attorney Dane Neilson, “You know that he (Thompson) got up that morning, and he said, ‘I’m going to kill a black person.’ She was unfortunately, the first person he saw, correct?”
“Correct,” McGrew said, according to a transcript of the hearing.
A jury in the matter deliberated less than half an hour before ruling that Thompson could understand the proceedings against him and was competent to stand trial.
Talley was performing a service to her employer at the time the injury occurred, which is at the heart of workers’ compensation law, said Stagliano. “Taneka Talley was at work, doing her job, when she was killed. If she had not been in that store, she would not have been available to him (Thompson) and she would still be alive to care for her son.”
She added that Talley’s son “should not be denied his right to his mother’s death benefits because a total stranger committed a senseless act of violence. To claim that because this crime was racially motivated it then nullifies her death benefits is a travesty and has no basis in the letter and spirit of the law.”
The matter will next be discussed between the two sides in a future settlement date. If no solution is reached, it could end up in court.

Syracuse, NY — Relatives told 18-year-old Cherron Patterson and her 15-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Weakfall, earlier this year that they were spanking Cherron’s baby too hard, according to the baby’s maternal grandmother.
On Sunday, relatives said they wished they had done more to protect 20-month-old Imani Jennings.
“I saw (Weakfall) spanking the baby (in the past),” said Amy Patterson, Cherron’s mother and Imani’s maternal grandmother. “Any place where Imani had bare skin, they’d smack her. They’d smack her till she screamed and then tell her to shut up. I told Cherron that he (Weakfall) has no business putting his hands on that baby. It’s not his child.”
Still, she never thought her granddaughter’s story would end like this.
On Sunday, Imani Jennings’ relatives and members of Mothers Against Gun Violence held a candlelight vigil outside the 124 Fage Ave. home where Syracuse police said Weakfall beat the girl to death over a potty-training accident.
“I just want to know why,” said Imani’s father, Lee Jennings Jr., 20, of 607 Park St.
He said he had admonished Cherron Patterson in the summer of 2007 for slapping their daughter in the head to discipline her.
“She would slap her, pop her in the forehead, like no ordinary slap,” Jennings said. “She went beyond a disciplinarian.”
But after he stopped dating Cherron a year ago, he never suspected that she or Weakfall was abusing the toddler, Jennings said.
“I had no idea,” Jennings said.
Police said Weakfall spent nearly an hour Friday beating the toddler with a metal rod, a cable cord, bedsprings and his fists. He then left to attend Corcoran High School.
Weakfall — who was charged Saturday with murder — was being held Sunday in Hillbrook Detention Center.
Cherron Patterson, a Fowler High student, was not home when her daughter was killed, police said. But police charged the woman with assault and endangering the welfare of her child in a prior incident involving Imani. Patterson, who is six months pregnant, is being held in the Justice Center Jail.

Murdered: Judilianna Lawrence

A veteran of the Iraq War who brags on his Web site that he can “kill without mercy or reason” has been arrested and charged with the murder of a mentally disabled 19-year-old Colorado girl he befriended on MySpace.
Spc. Robert Hull Marko (male, pictured above) was arrested Monday, on his 21st birthday, and charged with first-degree murder and sexual assault in the death of Judilianna “Judi” Lawrence. He’s being held without bond at the El Paso Sheriff’s Office Criminal Justice Center.
El Paso Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Robert Jaworski said Marko, who returned from Iraq in February, led police Monday to what authorities are nearly certain was Lawrence’s body. The body was found in a wooded area nearly three miles off the paved portion of Old Stage Road, which later turns into a dirt road.
The sergeant was one of more than two dozen members of a search and rescue team that tacked rough terrain Monday in a rural area of the front range of the Rocky Mountains on horseback and ATVs.
Lawrence’s family could not be immediately reached for comment today. On Monday, her mother and sister described her as a “sweetheart” who loved cartoons and hoped to be a veterinarian.
Her older sister, Evia Lawrence, said she had warned Lawrence, the middle of three sisters, not to meet people over the Internet, but said Monday that her sister could be “hot-headed.”
The missing teen, who was diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in grade school, was supposed to board a bus for school where she attends special education classes. She and her classmates were heading on a bowling trip, but Lawrence didn’t show up.
Instead, her family and police said, she met up with Marko whom she had struck up a friendship with over MySpace, unbeknownst to her mother or sisters.
When Judi didn’t come home, her sister hacked her Myspace to find out why. Judi had debilitating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and learning disabilities, but that didn’t stop her from having a bubbly personality and a bright outlook. It also didn’t stop her from looking for a boyfriend. It quickly became evident by Judi’s private messages that she was meeting Marko, who she knew as “Rex290″, instead of going on her school trip. At first, it appeared she’d just run away.
Judging by the comments on Marko’s page, it looks like he and Judi had started commenting back and forth and probably messaging each other in July. Marko had already been to Iraq and back as a mortarman in the Army. No doubt he saw some shit while he was there, and Marko already had what the Army called an “overactive imagination” for which he had gotten some “additional counseling” after his return from Iraq in February.
Marko arranged to meet Judi on Friday. He took her into the woods and engaged in what he called “rough sex” (and what everyone else would call rape) with the girl. Then Marko blindfolded Judi and gagged her. He stood her against a tree, pulled his knife, and cut her throat. Bleeding, Judi was able to get free. As she tried to run away, Marko followed her down the hill, death in pursuit of his disabled, vulnerable victim.
When Judilianna fell, Robert Marko calmly assessed the blood, knew she would bleed out and die, and left her there, on the forest floor, alone.
Marko hid the blindfold and gag in a nearby ravine, and went back to his barracks to hide his bloody shirt. By then, Fort Carson had already been asked to provide the name of the soldier who had a date with Judi. On his Myspace, his uniform read “Marko”. Fort Carson officials knew who Marko was; his unit had the highest casualties of any Ft. Carson unit in Iraq in 2007. Marko was due in October for further psych testing, the kind reserved for soldiers not faring well emotionally after a war tour.
Robert Hull Marko is the sixth soldier from his brigade to be charged with or convicted of murder since returning from Iraq. In no way is this a slight on our soldiers – but it does make one wonder what is happening to our young men. Marko may not have been fit for duty in the first place, but it certainly appears that his problems only got worse after he came home.
Certainly Marko’s online presence indicated some serious mental and emotional concerns, especially with regard to sex and death. He repeatedly posted to an adult site looking for a “pain slave” for a sexual relationship, preferably one where his slave had no limits (this link is adult in nature.) He also administrated this sad little forum about his Black Raptor game – the game that some of his friends say he believed was real.

Endangered Missing: Zenyetta Ra

*Editor’s Note: Stories like this serve as the catalyst for the launch of Project New Era. I was visiting one of my absolute FAVORITE blogs today called Black & Missing when I came across this story regarding a cute little girl by the name of Zenyetta Ra. Zenyetta resides in Tampa, Florida and actually went missing around the same time as Caylee Anthony did. The two girls are less than 100 miles apart from one another, yet Caylee is receiving way more attention than Zenyetta is. Anyone care to take a guess as to why? It’s highly unfortunate how little emphasis is placed on the black life, how our young girls and boys are literally taught by the media that they don’t matter. I don’t say any of this to take away from Caylee Anthony or anything that her family may be going through at this time but it’s sickening to know that when it comes to this thing that we call “life,” if the word “black” precedes it, it always seems to depreciate in value.
ZENYETTA KIERSTON ALEXANDRIA RA is a 3 year old black female with brown eyes and black hair. She weighs 40 lbs (18 kg) and is 3’0 (91 cm) in height.
She has been missing since Wed, August 27, 2008 (86 days) from Tampa, FL.
Please notify Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (Florida) 1-813-247-8200 if you have any information concerning the case of ZENYETTA KIERSTON ALEXANDRIA RA.
Further information: The child was last seen at home on August 27, 2008. She is believed to be in the company of her mother, Arayia Ra (pictured below).

Murdered: Davonn Dupree

*Editor’s Note: When you’re a runaway, many tend to think that you don’t matter. What we all have to remember is that no matter what our opinions of runaways may be, in MANY (not all) cases, this child is loved and missed by somebody. Sure, there are children who run away because they feel that it’s their only option for safety in escaping abuse. But we also have to remember the ones who run away and leave behind families who love them. I am in no way assuming anything about the family of Davonn but it’s highly unfortunate that this is the outcome to her decision. It should also be noted that in the article, the police officer gives ways as to how someone can be listed as endangered. Up until this case, I had never heard of such things. When I think of other cases involving those who are not African American, I don’t recall any of those ‘reasons’ coming up. They’re automatically considered “endangered.” Something to think about. RIP, Davonn!
Original Article Found at Washington Post
The homicide victim found in a Montgomery County stairwell this week was a 14-year-old Virginia girl whose family reported her as a runaway in late October, authorities said yesterday.
Davonn Denise Dupree of Springfield died of multiple injuries, according to Montgomery police. Her body was found in an apartment building in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring. Two men were seen carrying what appeared to be a body into the building.
Dupree was a student at South County Secondary School in Lorton, according to Fairfax County schools spokesman Paul Regnier. A family member reported her missing to Fairfax police at 10 p.m., Oct. 29, said Fairfax Officer Don Gotthardt, a police spokesman. Gotthardt said Dupree was last seen “almost immediately” before the family member made the report, but police did not discuss the details surrounding her departure.
Fairfax police said Dupree was not believed to have been endangered at the time of the report, which is why a news release was not issued. Her name was entered in national and state law enforcement databases, as is the protocol with missing persons, Gotthardt said.
“There is a distinction between when the officer takes a report simply [as] ‘missing runaway’ and ‘endangered,’ ” Gotthardt said. “This child was not declared endangered by the reporting party.”
Gotthardt said factors such as weather conditions, medical history and who the person was last seen with go into the determination of declaring someone “endangered.”
Montgomery police said that they initially held off publicly identifying the body, hoping that doing so would aid in their investigation, but that the risk of disclosure harming the case had passed. They continue to probe Dupree’s death and have released few details of how it happened.
About 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, police received calls about suspicious activity in the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard. Police and paramedics responded, but Dupree was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kidnapped/Ran Over: Carlton Bell

Investigators continue to piece together a bizarre kidnapping case that turned deadly Tuesday, while family sits in shock.
Tucson police believe Carlton Bell, 26, was first kidnapped then ran over.
It happened around 10:30 Tuesday night near the intersection of Fort Lowell and Alvernon.
Police say he was either thrown out by his kidnappers or he jumped out of their moving vehicle. That’s when witnesses say an SUV ran him over.
Investigators don’t believe that driver, William Lickliter, 42, was involved in the whole ordeal but he allegedly took off. Police later found him and arrested him for leaving the scene of a deadly accident.
Now police are still looking for who’s responsible for the abduction and family members still have a lot of unanswered questions.
On Friday, family members pulled out the photo albums as they laughed and remembered the good times.
Carlton’s brother, Corey Bell says they were very close.
“My memories are snapshots, vivid pictures of what we’ve done together…our life together,” Bell said.
He says his brother was a realtor here in Tucson, who one day wanted to open his own company.
His sister, Catherine Rochez, says it still doesn’t seem real.
“It’s still not a reality. Tomorrow, I think he’s going to walk through the door and say, ‘It’s all a joke,’” Rochez said.
But they know this nightmare is real.
“You never know when you’re going to lose somebody, never. And when it happens, you wish you could turn back the hands of time,” Rochez said. “Carlton was such good person, he had a big heart,” she added.
“He loved God. He loved his family. He loved his wife,” Bell said.
And they say he loved joking around.
“In our family, when you come home, you’re supposed to give each other a hug and say, ‘I love you,’” Rochez laughed.
Instead, Carlton would say ‘olive juice.’
She said that was his way of saying it.
“So yeah, I’m going to remember that,” she laughed.
The family has set up a fund, for his wife and 4-year-old daughter. You can make a donation at any Wells Fargo branch, under the ‘Carlton Bell Memorial Fund.’

Kenner Police are investigating a murder-suicide involving a man and his estranged girlfriend that occurred early this morning in the front yard of her residence in the 3400 block of East Louisiana State Drive, according to spokesman Shaun Watson.
Police said Jason Alexander, 26, of New Orleans, apparently shot 22-year-old Alicia Fruge twice in the face and then shot himself in the head in the front yard of Fruge’s residence. Police recovered a 9 mm Glock pistol on the scene, which is believed to have been used in the incident.
Watson said Kenner Police responded to a call shortly before 3 a.m. from Fruge’s aunt who heard gunshots outside of the residence she shared with Fruge and Fruge’s one-year-old child.
According to police, friends of Fruge said Alexander had been harassing her the entire evening by calling her on her cell phone, then confronted her at Harrah’s Casino in New Orleans. Police believe Alexander went to Fruge’s home and waited for her to return.
Police located Alexander’s vehicle parked around the corner on East Loyola Drive. The vehicle has been impounded pending a search warrant for any additional evidence, said Watson.
There had been no reported incidents of domestic violence between the two, he said.
Detective Robert McGraw is in charge of the investigation.
Chief Steve Caraway encouraged anyone with information on this incident to call the Kenner Police Department at 504.712.2222 or Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111.

Found Dead: Erika Yancey

*Editor’s Note: I found out about this story while working out at the gym. Apparently, Erika Yancey went missing and the manager at her apartment community found a trail of blood. He/She notified the police. Upon further investigation, the police noticed that, b/c of the way the blood was dispursed in the area, it was a struggle. Shortly after, her car was found with a body inside. There is currently an autopsy being performed to confirm that it is indeed the body of Erika Yancey. Sadly, the article posted below is the only one that I was able to find regarding this case.
Original Article Found at WJLA
HERNDON, Va. – The discovery of a blood trail at a Herndon apartment complex has led Fairfax County (web|news) police to launch a search for a woman believed to be missing.
Erika Yancey, 22, was last seen about 8:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in the area of Dulles International Airport (web|news), where she dropped her roommate off.
Her car is also missing. It’s a gray 2007 Hyundai Elantra, displaying Virginia tags KGZ4951.
Investigators launched their search after the property manager at the Camden Dulles Station apartments in the 2300 block of Dulles Station Boulevard called to report a possible blood trail leading from the parking lot to a dumpster.
Investigators say the discovery led detectives to determine that Yancey was missing.
“To detectives, it’s rather obvious there was some kind of struggle that took place between her car and the dumpster,” Fairfax County police Ofc. Don Gotthardt said. “That, combined with the fact that she’s now missing, as well as her car, is very troubling.”
The news has been unsettling to her neighbors.
“It’s petrifying and scary, very scary,” said Michelle Ross.
“It could me, it could be her, it could be any of us,” said Tootie Renfro.
Police described Yancey as a black female, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 125 pounds. She has short, dark hair, possibly with blonde highlights, police said. She might be wearing a navy blue and gray, American Eagle sweatshirt and gray JB sweatpants.

*Editor’s Note: Before I catch any “flack” about having someone who is not African-American on the site, let me preface by saying that THIS was, in my humble opinion, a hate crime. Hate crimes are becoming far more common than ever and I’m afraid the statistics involving hate crimes will only increase now that we have elected Barack Obama as president. The victims, as shown in the photo, were an interracial couple murdered by FOUR BLACK men. This story is absolutely heart wrenching. It is said that Quiana was in the process of writing Thank You notes (for the wedding) when the accused came into the house, tortured both victims and raped her before killing them both, execution style. Why?

Court records indicate four Marines acknowledged they had roles in the robbery, sexual assault and murder of a Camp Pendleton-based Iraq veteran and his wife last month in Riverside County.
Pvt. Kevin Darnell Cox, 20, of Tennessee; Pvt. Emrys John, 18, of Maryland; Lance Cpl. Tyrone Miller, 20, of North Carolina; and Pvt. Kesuan Sykes, 21, of California face murder charges in connection with the case.
The four were charged Tuesday with the execution-style slayings of Marine Sgt. Jan Pawek Pietrzak and Quiana Faye Jenkins-Pietrzak. The couple, who were originally from New York, were found gagged, tied and shot in the head on Oct. 15 in the living room of their home in Winchester. Sheriff’s deputies were called after the sergeant failed to show up for work.
The couple’s home was ransacked and jewelry and other items were taken. A fire was set, apparently in an effort to destroy evidence. The Camp Pendleton-based Marine sergeant and his wife were tortured before they were shot execution-style, according to a published report.
Investigators said they believe the motive was financial in nature.
Pietrzak’s mother, Henryka Pietrzak-Varga, prepared herself the possibility that her son could die in Iraq, but, in her words, “to die like this, in their own home? They were good kids. They didn’t deserve to die like this.”
The couple married in August and had been living off-base in Winchester in a five-bedroom home they recently purchased that had been foreclosed, according to the paper.

OAKLAND — Kennah Wilson, 18, was seven months pregnant and excited about becoming a new mother. She already knew she would name her baby girl Kamilah Donyea and had selected the color scheme for her upcoming baby shower.
On Friday evening Wilson, was outside of her East Oakland apartment telling friends and neighbors to save the date for her Oct.12 baby shower when gunmen opened fired on the group.
There in front of the building at 8200 block of MacArthur Boulevard and where about 30 other people were standing Wilson and her unborn child’s life were suddenly cut short.
Police are classifying both deaths as homicides, bringing the total this year to 94.
In addition, four others were wounded including two 15-year-old boys, a 20-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. All live in Oakland and police were not sure if any of them were related.
Lead investigator Sgt. Lou Cruz on Saturday called the carnage “a devastating act of violence,” adding it was fortunate no one else was hurt.
Police said that block of Mac Arthur Boulevard been the site of previous deadly shootings.
On June 30, 24-year-old Zaire Washington was shot to death on the street outside the same apartment building. That shooting was also close to where Shaneice Davis, 21, was fatally wounded by an errant bullet as she slept in her apartment in April. She was hit by a bullet fired at a group of men attending a memorial service for another slaying victim on the street outside her home.

Murder Mystery Solved: Edwina Jackson

FORT PIERCE — A Burger King value meal proved the undoing of 17-year-old Alden Benjamin White, who was convicted Friday of killing a 30-year-old Port St. Lucie woman and wounding her fiancĂ© in a brash drive-by shooting last summer.
White, who was 16 and a resident of Cocoa when the shooting occurred near 29th Street and Avenue B in Fort Pierce, shook his head and glanced nervously at his mother, sister and girlfriend as the verdict was read at 4 p.m. His sister sobbed uncontrollably and left the courtroom, while his mother wept silently.
Six jurors deliberated two hours before finding the teen guilty of second-degree murder and attempted murder in the execution-style slaying of Edwina Sheree Jackson and the shooting of Ricardo Thomas, who has recovered.
Prosecutors offered no motive for the crime – speculating outside the courtroom that White may have encountered Thomas at a rap concert in Cocoa – but they argued a time-stamped Burger King receipt and White’s DNA found on a chewed straw in the attackers’ car linked him and an accomplice to the couple’s shooting.
Defense attorney Christopher Beres argued that the straw and DNA could have been left in the car anytime before the shooting, but Assistant State Attorney Daryl Isenhower said ice was still melting in a cup near the straw – part of a Burger King Whopper meal bought in Cocoa 90 minutes before the crime.

A man approached a parked car in Clayton County and opened fire Tuesday night, killing a teenage girl and wounding another, police said. But a man inside the car returned fire, killing the assailant.
The dead girl was identified as Rikia Ross, 16, of Riverdale. She died at Southern Regional Hospital.
Police said the assailant, LaShawn Minor, 34, of Atlanta, approached the car on Bellwood Lane in Riverdale, wearing a bandanna on his face. He began firing and hit Ross and an unidentified 15-year-old girl, who was wounded in the hand.
An adult male passenger, whose name was not released, returned fire and Minor fell dead in front of the car with the bandanna still on his face, said Clayton police Lt. Rebecca Brown.
Brown said the shooting of Minor was ruled self-defense. Police said the motive appeared to be robbery, but the case was still under investigation.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said a missing girl whose body was found in a closet in a vacant home was sexually assaulted and then suffocated.
The body of 8-year-old Dymia Woody was found in a mobile home at 104 Carly Drive late Monday night.
The discovery was made by a search dog that was helping locate the girl after her mother reported her missing around 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Deputies said the dog found an open door on the vacant mobile home, went inside and found Woody’s body inside a closet.
The coroner’s office said Woody died from asphyxiation because of a breathing obstruction. They said there were also visible signs of sexual assault on Woody’s body.
The coroner’s office said they are being vague about the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Deputies spent much of Tuesday morning collecting DNA and clothing samples from people in the community.
Residents said they are shocked and that Woody was not the type of child to stay out too late. They describe their neighborhood as tight-knit, where everyone knows each other.
“This is horrible,” said Renee Woody, Dymia’s mother. “I wouldn’t wish this on anybody, and I don’t know why this happened. I just want answers. That’s all.”
As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, deputies had not made an arrest in the case.

SAN ANTONIO — Friends of a man found beaten and stabbed to death one week ago are calling his death a hate crime.
Adrian Clay, also known as Shari Campbell, was popular in San Antonio’s gay community, friends said. Clay would dance at drag competitions and fundraisers, spending a lot of his time to raise money for AIDS awareness and research, said friend Alexis Vallerio.
“He was like the class clown,” she said. “He was there to bring people up when they were sad, (he) was there to give a helping hand whenever we needed him.”
Vallerio, along with other friends of Clay, believe he was the victim of a hate crime when he was found dead on the 4800 block of Presa Road near a bar called The Boss.
Clay was dressed in drag as he left the bar about 2 a.m., friends said, and was found bleeding and unconscious near the bar. Clay was taken to the hospital, but later died of his injuries.
Friends of Clay are asking anybody with information to contact Crime Stoppers. A benefit fundraiser is also scheduled for Thursday evening at the Silver Dollar Night Club at 1422 North Main Ave.
Police said they have not classified Clay’s death as a hate crime because they have no motives or suspects.
Anybody with information about Clay’s death is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-7867.

*Editor’s Note: I am absolutely SICK of women having children and then after the 9 months is up, deciding “Oh wait…I don’t REALLY want to be a mother!” It’s called BIRTH CONTROL, CONDOMS, ABSTINENCE! I get tired of irresponsible mothers. When you become a mother, your child is your FIRST obligation (or at least it should be). If you don’t want any obligations that don’t include putting on a freakum dress and poppin’ bottles of Patron all night, then by all means, leave the baby making to those who are actually READY for the responsibility. Occurrences like these are happening far too often! And quite frankly, PNE is sick of writing about them!

Gale Lindeman, 26, and Mikicia Byrd, 25, were arrested Friday and charged with unlawful conduct toward a child. According to Union Public Safety reports, the incident occurred on October 18th. At 11:15pm an officer was called to Rose Hill Garden Apartments for a separate incident when he found the women’s five children had been left alone.
A 7-year old girl told the officer her mother had left around 8:00pm to go to a party in Spartanburg. The girl was left with her younger siblings, ages 3 and 1, and two other children, ages 8 and 4. Police reports say Lindeman’s mother came home 30 minutes later and told the officer she thought her daughter was watching the children.
The woman called Lindeman and let the officer speak to her. He says Lindeman told him she thought her mother was watching the children.
Chief Sam White says the children were placed in emergency protective custody and taken by DSS. He says it took the investigator several days to determine who was telling the truth about who was supposed to be watching the children, which is why the women were not arrested until Friday. Both women are out of jail on bond.
Byrd’s daughter told the officer her mother had left them alone several times.

A Monticello man and his daughter face first-degree murder and assault charges after police say they stabbed a teenage boy to death over a July 4th fireworks accident.
Police say 48-year-old Clarence Ammons and 19-year-old Alicia Ammons attacked 15-year-old Courtland Jones after the teen shot an 8-month-old child with a bottle rocket or a roman candle. Jones suffered at least one stab wound to his neck during the fight.
Police say Jones died Saturday at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Officers at the scene of the stabbing found three knives, one soaked in blood.
Alicia Ammons’ sister, Shene Ammons, said Jones’ death is tragic but she defended her sister’s actions. She says her sister’s was simply protecting her baby.
Arkansas State Police investigators say both Ammons are accusing the other of being Jones’ killer. Both are being held in the Drew County jail on $100,000 bond.

A popular Brooklyn car salesman was lured to his death after he went to Coney Island for a date with a woman he met online, cops said.
Daniel Brandt, 24, who worked at an Infiniti auto dealership, thought he was going to meet the new girlfriend at the Sea Rise apartment complex there.
Instead, he was confronted by two armed men around 1 a.m., police said.
“He had been in a conversation with a woman and he was going to meet her,” a police source said. “He thought he was hooking up with the female.”
The source said Brandt was lured up to the fourth floor of the tower, where the gunmen robbed him of his cash and other property then shot him once in the head.
Medics rushed the victim to Coney Island Hospital but he could not be saved, police said.
“I just want to know who killed my son and why,” said heartbroken mom, Courtney Brandt, 41. “He’s the sweetest man you’ll ever know.”
“He was all I had,” added his grandmother, Corrine Brandt, 87, at the Williamsburg apartment she shared with him. “It just won’t be the same.”
Police sources said investigators are still trying to determine whether Brandt was set up by the mystery woman or if he was the unlucky victim of a pair of opportunistic attackers.
Cops were hunting for the killers and the woman, but no arrests had been made.
“He was very trustworthy, and that’s what got him killed,” said Kim Fuller, 49, a family friend.
Until recently, Brandt had been a salesman at Infiniti of Manhattan but had moved on to another dealership selling the high-end vehicles, a friend said.
On his MySpace.com page, Brandt also described himself as a party promoter and part-time model.

SUMTER, S.C. – An ex-convict who thought he was being robbed gunned down a 12-year-old trick-or-treater, spraying nearly 30 rounds with an assault rifle from inside his home after hearing a knock on the door, police said Saturday.
Quentin Patrick, 22, is accused of killing 12-year-old T.J. Darrisaw on Friday night. T.J.’s 9-year-old brother, Ahmadre Darrisaw, and their father, Freddie Grinnell, were injured but were released after being treated at a hospital.
The family attended a Halloween celebration in downtown Sumter, 45 miles east of Columbia, then stopped at Patrick’s house because the porch light was on, police said. Another sibling was with them, but wasn’t hurt.
Police said at least two of the boys were wearing ghoulish masks when they knocked on the door. The boys’ mother and a toddler stayed in the car nearby.
Patrick emptied his AK-47, shooting at least 29 times through his front door, walls and windows after hearing the knock, Police Chief Patty Patterson said.
He told police he had been robbed and shot in the past year.
