And the “Are You Serious” Award Goes to…
Posted in Crime, Murdered, Project New Era, Ridiculousness on June 8, 2008 by projectnewera*Editor’s Note: A late night conversation led to the information regarding this story. The “man” pictured above is Michael Ray Turner. Michael Ray Turner is currently behind bars for murdering his wife, Moniquedushi Turner and wounding two of his three children. Michael shot Moniquedushi because she had some information on him that she was threatening to turn over to the police. According to Michael, you just ‘don’t snitch’…and because she did, he ‘handled her.’ I am posting the link to a news story related to this but most importantly, I am posting the link to a video where he confesses to the murder of Moniquedushi. Please note that the interview is somewhat graphic, as he leaves little to the imagination. At one point during the interview, he asks the reporter to request that the jail allow him to shower because “…their blood is still all over me.” Absolutely ridiculous. Nonetheless, it’s really sad when these children have to live without their mother but also without a father. Maybe it’s a good thing that he’s no longer a part of their lives, as he obviously lacks good judgment and most importantly, a conscience. After witnessing such a heinous crime, I just hope that these children can return to some level of normalcy…watching your mother get gunned down while attempting to protect you from the monster that is your father is sure to evoke memories that many of us could never even fathom. Rest in Peace, Moniquedushi!

RIP: Evin(11), Ehren(6) & Ereal(4) Robinson

Moments after her estranged husband shot and killed himself inside her home, Brenda Robinson’s first thoughts were about her children.
“Where’s my babies?” she said as she jumped over the body of Eric Robinson and ran outside. When she opened the door to the green Pontiac in the driveway, her six-year-old son, Ehren, fell into her arms. She grabbed him and immediately yelled for someone to call for help.
Her other two children — Erhen’s brother, Evin, 11, and their sister, Ereal, 4 — were in the backseat of the car, still clinging to life, she said. Both had gunshot wounds to the head. They were rushed to Jackson Hospital in downtown Montgomery for treatment.
At 3 a.m. Monday, nearly five hours after her gruesome discovery, Brenda Robinson would get the awful news — her children were dead.
“I’m waiting for them to come back,” she said Monday morning.
Montgomery police are treating the Sunday incident as a triple murder-suicide.
According to Lt. Keith Barnett of the Montgomery Police Department, Eric Robinson, 42, shot and killed the three children in the car at an unknown location. He then drove the car with the children’s bodies to a home at 635 Iris Lane where his wife and her mother were waiting for him to return them from their normally scheduled visitation, according to police.
Eric Robinson went inside the home and asked for his wife. She hid in the bathroom and listened as he threatened to kill himself if she didn’t come out. Brenda Robinson said she hear a loud pop as shot himself in the head, Barnett said.
Police were called at 9:53 p.m. Sunday to respond to the shooting. Neither of the women was injured.
Robinson and his wife were in the process of divorcing, according to police reports. Sunday would have been their 12th wedding anniversary.
Police say they previously had investigated a series of domestic violence reports involving the couple, and that Brenda Robinson signed a warrant against her husband Sunday afternoon for violation of a protective order.
Police said they made multiple attempts to locate Robinson at his residence at 1128 Birdwood Drive.
The children’s deaths bring to 25 the number of slayings in Montgomery this year, according to police.
What Happened to Clea?
Posted in Missing, Project New Era on June 7, 2008 by projectnewera
*Editor’s Note: Further proof that the black life just doesn’t matter. When Laci Peterson disappeared, we heard about it for weeks before the perpetrator was named. When Natalie Holloway went on a trip to Aruba and never returned, we NEVER stopped hearing about it. Why is it that black women don’t matter? Why is it that we’re just not important enough for the police to at least look into it when we go missing? Why?

Laurell Hall remembers the last time she saw her daughter, just like it was yesterday.
“I dropped her off at work. She didn’t have a car, her purse, any money, ID, anything,” she said of her 18-year old daughter, Cleashindra. The family called her “Clea.”
That was May 9, 1994, seven years ago.
Mrs. Hall dropped Clea off at work at 5309 Faucett Road, where Clea did clerical work. Clea hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
“It’s hard to put it into words, Mrs. Hall said. “After seven years, it’s hard to imagine that nobody seems to know where she is, or if they do, they won’t come forward,” she said.
“How can they live with themselves?” she asked.
Cleashindra Hall was two weeks away from her high school graduation. The weekend before she disappeared, she had attended her senior prom and a sorority dance. That Sunday had been Mother’s Day, Mrs. Hall said, and Clea had given her a gift and card at church that day.
“Clea was funny,” Mrs. Hall said. “She loved children. She was always trying to baby-sit for people. Her plan was to be a pediatrician.”
Clea was “a typical teen-age girl,” her mother said, who liked to talk on the phone and spend time with her friends. But she was also very involved in school and church activities.
“She liked music,” Mrs. Hall said. Clea was in the school and church choirs as well as in the school band, Mrs. Hall said.
“She like to read. I guess that’s why she was an honor student. If she didn’t feel like doing anything, she would read.”
So much has happened to the Hall family since Clea disappeared, Mrs. Hall said.
Both of Clea’s grandmothers have died in that time. She now has a niece named after her middle name, “Denise.”
Capt. Ivan Whitfield of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Pine Bluff Police Department, said Clea’s disappearance is still “an open case,” and he has been reviewing it, checking to see if anything else can be done.
“We’re still looking at leads, and hoping for more information,” Whitfield said.
In the past, the Hall family has held prayer vigils to remind the public about Clea’s disappearance. But this year, they won’t, Mrs. Hall said. The family will probably “just release some balloons from home,” she said.
“We did the service to remember Clea, but also to remind people about all the children who are missing,” Mrs. Hall said.
Mrs. Hall has joined with other parents to help each other through the experience.
She has worked on projects with Colleen Nick, mother of Morgan Nick, who disappeared six years ago in Alma, and who a stateside notification system is named for.
Both participated in the “Arbor of Hope” project, kicked off Tuesday in Little Rock. The project includes the names of 500 children missing from Arkansas.
This year, Mrs. Hall did a safety fair at a local discount store, reminding parents that the same thing can happen to them.”One lady came up to me and said she thought Clea had been found,” Mrs. Hall said.
“People have forgotten.”

Racism in America
Posted in Project New Era, Ridiculousness on June 5, 2008 by projectnewera
I really think that a lot of people have issues. Racism is an issue that many people either choose to ignore or say that it simply does not exist.
Below are some photos of an ‘artist’ by the name of Yazmany Arboledawho created this ‘exhibit’ in an empty office space in New York. The art exhibit was closed off by police within 30 minutes of its display and for obvious reasons.
I am all for freedom of expression. But when that expression promotes hate, insights riots and further propagates bigotry in the HIGHEST form against a man and his CHILDREN, I have issues with that and you should too!
There are several photos available online from this ‘exhibit’ but I will only post the ones that are not sexual in nature. Unfortunately, I do not have the pictures that display his feelings towards Senator Hillary Clinton. If anyone has them, feel free to email them to me.

Accolades: The Nicholas Brothers
Posted in Accolades, Project New Era on June 2, 2008 by projectnewera
*Editor’s Note: I have always been into dancing (although I am probably not the best at it). I remember watching a program one evening and seeing a segment on the Nicholas Brothers. I was buried in my laptop doing some IMing with friends when I heard a commentator remark “These guys were amazing.” It caught my attention. I look up and see TWO BLACK men by the name of Fayard and Harold Nicholas, doing splits and then performing those very splits down a flight of stairs. I was floored! One of the little known facts about Harold Nicholas is that he played “Sarge Johnson” in the hit movie, The Five Heartbeats. Nonetheless, I wanted to share this clip with you. Amidst all the horrible news we’re subjected to on a consistent basis with this site, I feel that it’s just as important to share the good. The Nicholas brothers were some amazing men! They blessed the world their unique dance moves and precision. What’s sad is that they were not credited for the work they did until years AFTER they did it. Isn’t that crazy? I hope you guys enjoy the clip as much as I did!
RIP: Aisha Bristol

A Brooklyn mom strapping her baby boy into his car seat for a trip to a day care center was viciously murdered Monday by her boyfriend, cops said.
Police sources said Aisha Bristol, 27, was slashed across her throat about 7 a.m. on Hart St. near Lewis Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant by a man who later called police and confessed to the killing – before ingesting poison.
Cops found the mom lying dead next to the Toyota Yaris with a bloody kitchen knife nearby, as her 1-year-old son Nehemiah sat in his car seat.
“It’s too much to take in,” said Bristol’s cousin, Roberta Smith, 29. “Right now we’re just mourning.”
Law enforcement sources said the suspect in the murder is a personal trainer.
Smith said Bristol met the man about a year ago at a gym but wasn’t aware the two were romantically involved. She said the man often trained Bristol at her Pulaski St. apartment.
Police sources said a 911 caller from Queens claimed he was the victim’s boyfriend and took responsibility for the slaying. He then told cops he was going to drink bleach.
Cops found the man and rushed him to Jamaica Hospital, where he was expected to be charged, police sources said. He was not immediately identified.
Police sources said the couple appeared to have a troubled relationship. Bristol had filed an assault complaint against him in the past, the sources said.

The fatal shooting of a Loyola University Chicago journalism student as she drove her car on Chicago’s South Side Sunday night may be connected to another shooting the same evening in which two people are being questioned, authorities said.
Ishma Stewart, 20, was driving a Pontiac G6 sedan in the 4800 block of South Indiana Avenue just before 11 p.m. when another vehicle pulled alongside hers and numerous shots were fired, police said.
The slaying, not far from Stewart’s Chicago home, left her family reeling.
“There’s no issues of gangs, drugs, crime or anything like that [in her family],” said her uncle, La Coulton Walls, a Maywood lawyer. “All the kids have jobs or are going to school. . . . So you would never expect the prize of the family, one who really got it—for something like this to happen.”
After Stewart was wounded Sunday night, her boyfriend, who was in the front passenger seat, moved behind the wheel and drove her about four blocks to Provident Hospital of Cook County, police said. She died in the hospital soon afterward.
An autopsy showed Stewart, of the 5000 block of South Drexel Boulevard in the Kenwood neighborhood, died from a bullet wound in the arm.

Tanisha Hull, 19, was found dead inside her apartment at the Carriage House Apartments in Somers Point after management called police to check on the victim’s status.
Officers discovered Tull dead inside a bedroom in the complex on the 100 block of New Road at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
An autopsy concluded Tull’s cause of death was asphyxia due to strangulation. An acquaintance, 22-year-old Najee Kelsey, of Atlantic City, has been charged with her murder.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel alleges the victim and suspect had an argument prior to her death.
“We allege he entered the apartment against her will. At some point thereafter, strangled her to death and fled,” said Housel.
Tull was a nursing student at Atlantic Cape Community College. Dean of Students Carmen Royal released the following statement: “We are deeply saddened at the loss of our student Tanisha Tull. On behalf of Atlantic Cape Community College, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends.”
Kelsey has been charged with murder and is being held in Atlantic County jail on $750,000 full cash bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned for a judge Thursday morning.
Rejection

*Editor’s Note: I suppose that women need to carry TWO cell phones these days…one for regular things like family, friends, employment contact, etc….and ANOTHER for the purpose of having SOME number to give to men who just won’t take “no” for an answer. It’s a shame that you can’t even have a preference these days…that if you tell someone “NO” you stand the risk of getting shot. It’s sad that this girl may be paralyzed for life because of a serious ego trip!

Three or four men in a silver or gray Chevrolet HHR also stopped at the store and followed the young women when they pulled away in a dark-blue Nissan Maxima about 3 a.m.
“Hey, baby, what’s your phone number?” they called out as the cars traveled west through Orlando.
Then the banter grew more aggressive. The men threw a T-shirt, then an AA battery, at the Nissan. One of the women threw a broken cell-phone charger back. At one point, the HHR swerved into the Nissan’s lane and tried to run the car off the road.
When the Nissan turned north on John Young Parkway, the HHR followed. Then, at Princeton Street, a shot rang out. Shrapnel flew as the bullet pierced the door and struck 18-year-old Beaubrun, who was sitting in the back seat.
Since the shooting, which damaged her spine and lung, Beaubrun has been unconscious at Orlando Regional Medical Center. She had surgery to remove part of her lung. No one is sure that she’ll wake up, let alone walk again.
“I want them to catch these people who did that to my daughter,” said Beaubrun’s mother, Mireille Jeanlouis, her eyes red-rimmed from crying and lack of sleep. “I don’t want them to do that to someone else.”

Police were called to the Huntington Apartments of St. Charles — more commonly known as Gallery Place — at 10:24 p.m. for the report of trouble in an apartment.
The caller, who police said was the victim’s young daughter, said a woman was not breathing.
Once there, they found Jasmine Nicole Clark, 23.
The mother of two daughters, Clark had a ligature — according to charging documents it was a belt — tight around her neck and was unresponsive.
Clark’s 7-year-old daughter made the 911 call before fleeing the apartment to the safety of a neighbor’s.

However, I am keeping my fingers crossed that this channel doesn’t slowly but surely evolve in the mess that is BET. It’s a great idea, as long as they keep with the concept.

Sean Bell Part II: Michael Byoune
Posted in Murdered, Police Brutality, Project New Era on May 17, 2008 by projectnewera*Editor’s Note: This is getting beyond ridiculous. I am so tired of reading stories about cops “feeling” threatened or “thinking” that something was going to happen when a situation is completely harmless and they were simply LOOKING for a reason to participate in some target practice. This has got to stop, people. We’re losing all of our black men to these ‘cops’ who still get to sit on the scene with paid administrative leave while an “investigation” takes place.

Inglewood police today were tight-lipped about their probe into the death of one man and the wounding of another when officers shot into a car they wrongly thought was the source of gunfire directed at them.
“I want to express my sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Michael Byoune, the deceased,” said Inglewood police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks at a news conference at police headquarters this morning.
“And I’d like to express my condolences to Mr. Larry White, who was also injured during the incident, which occurred at 1:40 in the morning on Sunday,” Seabrooks said.
The two officers who fired shots at the car — one a 5-year veteran of the force and the other with “just under one year” of service — were placed on paid administrative leave, Seabrooks said. Their names were not released.
The officers were near Crenshaw Boulevard and 85th Street when they said they heard gunshots coming from the parking lot of a Rally’s Restaurant, said Inglewood police Sgt. Jeff Steinhoff.
“As they looked over, their attention was drawn to a male running away eastbound from the parking lot,” Steinhoff said.

lot in the 3000 block of Manchester Boulevard, said Inglewood police Sgt. Hector Ramirez.
The officers said they felt something strike their patrol vehicle and reported hearing gunshots that they thought came from the car, Ramirez said. Both officers then fired multiple shots into the vehicle, hitting two of its three occupants, Ramirez said.
The car stopped directly across from them, Ramirez said.
Byoune, 19, of Los Angeles, a passenger in the vehicle, died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

RIP: Damireo Burgess
Posted in Murdered, Project New Era on May 17, 2008 by projectneweraA Riverside man was shot to death early Friday as he returned to his apartment with his girlfriend and they encountered at least two intruders inside, Buffalo police said.
Damireo L. Burgess, 27, who is also known as Demario L. Burgess, was shot once in the chest at about 1:45 a.m. at 2349 Niagara St., not far from Ontario Street, and died at the scene.
Burgess’ death was just the beginning of a series of events Friday that police believe may also have involved the knifepoint kidnapping of Burgess’ girlfriend on the East Side and the arrests of three other women later Friday afternoon.
Authorities refused to release additional details or police reports of the events late Friday, claiming they were still trying to sort out what happened.
What police did say earlier in the day was that Burgess and his girlfriend left their upper apartment at Niagara Street for a short time and returned to discover the intruders.
“When the victim and the girlfriend walked in, they caught them off-guard,” said Michael J. DeGeorge, Buffalo police spokesman. “One of the intruders wound up shooting the victim once in the chest area.”
Police said one bullet was fired. It also ripped through a rear wall of the apartment, leaving a hole visible to the outside. The intruders then fled the scene.
Later Friday morning, a 19-year-old Buffalo woman — possibly Burgess’ girlfriend — was believed to have been kidnapped at knifepoint from a Spring Street address on the East Side by three other women.
Three women were arrested in the afternoon when police tracked down a car they believed was used in the kidnapping just across the Cheektowaga border. The three were arrested by Northeast District officers. The names of the suspects and the victim were not being released, police said, “due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.”
The victim was not seriously injured in the kidnapping, police said. Police were still questioning witnesses and continuing their investigation into possible ties between Burgess’ murder and the kidnapping late Friday.
Meanwhile, police said they found no signs of forced entry and were still trying to determine whether anything was taken by the intruders at the Niagara Street apartment.
Neighbors, who said Burgess and his girlfriend were often known to have left the door to their apartment unlocked, were shocked to hear about the murder.
They called Burgess a friendly man and reported no serious trouble at the house.
Police reports indicate Burgess was arrested last April on drug charges. It was unclear whether drugs played a role in Friday’s attack, however.
“Were the intruders there to take stuff and were surprised they came home? Or, were they there waiting for him?” De- George said. “There’s still a number of pieces to be put together at this point.”

Norman acknowledged the imagery’s Jim Crow roots but said he sees nothing wrong with depicting a prominent African-American as a monkey,
“We’re not living in the (19)40′s,” he said. “Look at him . . . the hairline, the ears — he looks just like Curious George.”
About a dozen prostestors rallied against the shirts Tuesday afternoon, condemning them as racist and asking Norman, longtime proprietor of Mulligan’s Bar and Grill on Roswell Street, to stop selling them.
Marietta native Pam Lindley, 47, joined the protest after reading about the controversy online.
“I don’t want people to think this is what Marietta is all about,” she added, motioning towards the tavern. “This is what some people think the South is still like. Marietta’s come a long way but I guess it’s still got a little ways to go.”
